RTV

RTV

RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanized) silicone rubber is a kind of liquid silicone rubber originally designed for room-temperature curing, which is how it got its name. Due to continuously increase in applications, various specifications and reaction methods have been developed. RTV is widely used in potting, bonding, sealing, and coating across industries such as construction, electronics, electrical, automotive, and general industrial sectors.

RTV is packaged in one-component and two-component, with three main curing methods: Room Temperature Cure (also called condensation curing), Heat Cure (also called addition curing), and UV Cure. These curing types can further be categorized based on specific properties, such as high strength, solvent resistance, heat resistant, and flame retardant etc., to meet different requirements, curing conditions, equipment needs, and material properties.

RTV exhibits excellent performance in extreme environments. It adheres well to substrates such as metal, plastic, glass, and ceramics without requiring a primer, making it suitable for applications like sealing, bonding, insulation, gasketing, coating, and encapsulating.

Also called condensation curing. This type cures into elastic silicone rubber by reacting with moisture in the air at room temperature. One-component RTV can be further divided into three types based on the chemical by-products released during curing the process: Oxime (low-contamination), Alcohol (alcohol-releasing) and Acetoxy (acid-releasing).

Also called addition curing. This type cures into elastic silicone rubber either at room temperature or with heat.

This type cures into elastic silicone rubber when exposed to ultraviolet light. UV Cure is only available in one-component formulations.
